Home affairs delivers

FOURWAYS - Joy at a government department.

In October I visited the Randburg Home Affairs Offices in order to renew my passport.

Not looking forward to the exercise due to the usual long queues and disinterested public officials, I walked in to their dull offices only to be greeted with smiles. There were no long queues and my renewal process was quick and efficient. I asked the official if I could pay extra for an emergency passport and he said that the normal passport process only took two weeks.

After he assured me that I’d have my passport in two weeks, I left the building with an enlightened perspective of Home Affairs.

A week later I received an SMS telling me that my passport was ready for collection. I could not believe it. I went down to the Randburg offices again, and along with my brand new passport, free of any errors mind you, received another courteous service from your staff. It took me no more than 5 minutes!

Of course, our Minister of Finance, could allocate Home Affairs a little more money, an upgraded building and offices would go a long way in rewarding the staff in enhancing their professionalism.
