Douglasdale police get healthy

DOUGLASDALE - Douglasdale police station held intensive health and wellness checks for all their members.

According to Warrant officer Balan Muthan, head of communications at the station, the checks are conducted every three months.

The health and wellness checks are conveniently done at the station in order to give all officers and administration staff access to glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, body mass index tests, smoking and exercise assessments and HIV testing and counselling.

The check-up also includes a psychological evaluation of all members of the police station.

Muthan explained that being a police officer can be a stressful job and this can impact on an officer’s health. This is the reason why regular health and wellness checks are so important.

“Members of the South African Police Service need to be health conscious, especially pertaining to their nutrition,” he cautioned. “They should also join sports clubs to keep healthy” Muthan said that keeping the staff of the station in good heath also eliminated excessive booking off and sick days.

“At Douglasdale police station we try to keep the staff happy and healthy in mind and body,” he quipped.
