Toastmasters empowers Diepsloot girls

DIEPSLOOT - The Bear Foundation in association with Toastmasters held their public speaking Toastmasters Youth Leadership Graduation.

The Bear Foundation empowers girls and young women to live their dreams, discover new possibilities within themselves and take on life’s challenges with fierce determination and drive. Bear is an acronym for bold, empowerment, affirmation and re-distribution.

Young women from townships such as Diepsloot and Cosmo City were chosen to attend the 10-week youth leadership programme. Nomzamo Gcwensa of the foundation explained that Toastmasters was important for pupils because it improved their grammar, speech, English and listening skills. “The girls came from different schools and networked with each other forming a strong team between themselves,” Gcwensa said. “The course has built confidence and a fierce determination to succeed when exposed to what life has to offer.”

The theme of the graduation was 20 years of freedom. “This is why Soweto Hotel was the best venue we could choose for the ceremony as it represented the theme,” Gwencsa said.
