Douglasdale officer break world record

DOUGLASDALE - When he's not fulfilling his role as the eyes, ears and mouthpiece for the Douglasdale police, Warrant Officer Balan Muthan is breaking car sound world records.

Muthan, who is the head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station, explained that he had always had an interest in car sound and discovered that he could compete in the International Auto Sound Challenge Association (IASCA) competitions four years ago. The association is a car audio competition organisation dedicated to the growth of the mobile electronics industry. The organisation holds car audio competitions called Soundoffs in 34 countries around the world.

Since his involvement four years ago, Muthan has broken three world records with the help of his friends, Ropesh Koosiallee and Strini Preisam.

At the Rand Show, which was held over the Easter weekend Muthan entered his ‘souped up’ bakkie into the IASCA competition and managed to set a new world record of 155.8 decibels.

“I enjoy spending time in the garage building up my bakkie,” Muthan said. “The garage is where I find solace and I have a pure passion for sound.

“Building up vehicles can be costly but you can do it at your own pace,” he added. “It’s a lot of hard work but you end up seeing the fruits of your hard work when you do well at competitions.”

Muthan will compete at the IASCA world record semi-finals at Sibaya Casino in Durban from 28 June to 29 June .
