Pets ask community to assist with township animals
FOURWAYS - Pet Empowerment in Townships (Pets) planned a breakfast run to raise funds for their June spayathon for dogs and cats.
Riders of motorcycle clubs such as Sons of Jo’Burg and Road Hogs, and many individual riders took to the road in support of the cause.
The run began at The Buzz shopping centre and riders rode 30km to the Bohemian pub in Westdene for brunch.
The riders also donated pet food and accessories, and R1 650 towards the spayathon.
These funds will go towards vet’s bills, sterilisations, vaccinations and de-worming of township pets. Pets organiser, Karen Mostert said,”Spayathons are probably the most important service we provide to underprivileged communities.”
The spayathon will take place on 28 June at Weilers farm township and aims to sterilise between 40 and 50 animals;,vaccinate and de-worm 300 animals and treat between 20 and 30 sick animals. They have also signed up four vets for the initiative. These spayathons occur every two months in the township and pet owners are given pet food and a blanket.
Pets has asked the community to donate collars, leads, bowls, food, blankets and dog jerseys.
