Magaliessig fights ‘commercial creep’
MAGALIESIG - The Magaliessig Action Forum is taking a stand against development in the suburb.

The forum learned of plans to develop the land on the corner of William Nicol Drive and Montecasino Boulevard.
While this land is zoned commercial, it borders residential properties.
“While we accept that the land along Montecasino Boulevard has been designated for commercial development, we are concerned about the plans to extend the business node right up to the residential developments, which goes against accepted townplanning policy and would set a precedent for other possible commercial encroachment (for example, Makro) into Magaliessig and other residential suburbs. As the forum, our mandate is to protect residents’ lifestyles and property investments in Magaliessig, and as such we remain opposed to commercial creep and the extension of the Fourways business node. We will thoroughly investigate the developer’s intentions,” the forum said in a statement.
The forum called for residents to have their say on the potential development.
“We encourage residents to address their comments on the proposed developments to the City of Johannesburg and email them to us. We will collate all comments and deliver it to City of Johannesburg.”
The forum wants to send these comments by 20 June.
