Talented pupils perform for parents

BROADACRES - To mark the end of the school term Unity College in Broadacres held a very special assembly.

Unity College is a special needs school which caters for pupils with delayed scholastic ability.

For the assembly the pupils planned and practised skits which reflected the different themes and subjects they had covered during the school term. Some of these were nursery rhymes, physical science and respecting one’s grandparents.

Two of the highlights of the assembly was a performance by the Tiny Hands group which was created to address the needs of non-verbal pupils at the school, and a skit about mother nature teaching the human race about recycling. Unity College’s principal, Bruce Lindsay explained that the school was registered as an eco-school, and therefore the staff and pupils take reducing, re-using and recycling very seriously.

The school also handed over a donation of pet food which they had collected during the term to animal rescue organisation Friends of Rescued Animals. Lindsay ended the assembly by congratulating the pupils on their performances. “I saw things in all of you today that I never knew you could do,” he said. The assembly was a fun day for staff, pupils and especially family members who were both touched and delighted to see the pupils’ hard work and progress showcased.
