Hogs help the guide dogs

DOUGLASDALE - The South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind received a hefty donation from Hogshead pub in Douglasdale.

The pub held their annual charity golf day at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate on 2 September. According to Amy Godfrey of Not the Norm events company which organised the golf day for Hogshead, the goal was to raise R15 000 for the association.

However, the excellent support from the public meant that Hogshead surpassed its goal and managed to raise R30 200. Godfrey said they decided to donate the money to SA Guide Dogs because most people did not realise that the association was not government funded and had to rely on private donations.

She said Hogshead was also influenced by the love and attention that went into training the dogs at the association’s training centre in Paulshof, and the effort that was put into matching the dogs to visually impaired humans. The association visited Hogshead pub with some of its trainee puppies to receive the cheque.
