Estate goes green

BROADACRES- As part of Arbor Month, residents and staff at Evergreen Broadacres Retirement Lifestyle Estate headed outdoors in October to lend a hand and turn a sod.

An ongoing greening initiative at the idyllic estate is further developing its picturesque parkland areas, creating an attractive ‘green lung’ centrepiece to the village, and ultimately transforming formerly under-utilised areas into lush, green spaces.

The six hectare estate began importing clay from a construction site and levelling it out around the small wetland running through the village.

Along with other landscaping activities like hydro-seeding and grass planting efforts, these activities culminated in the first Broadacres’s Arbor Day, which saw the residents planting a total of 66 trees.

Phil Wilson, national sales manager for Evergreen Lifestyles said, “This fun community initiative is also an important part of unlocking the landscape potential at Broadacres, as well as increasing the usability of the estate’s open spaces.”

This year, with the help of kind donations from residents and their families, a green-fingered contingent of residents and staff planted a total of 30 big trees and 55 shrubs; with all who participated truly getting into the spirit of the day.
