Job opportunity to help others

PAULSHOF - The College of Orientation and Mobility at the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind is offering people a unique employment opportunity.

The opportunity is a two-year orientation and mobility diploma course.

Rosemary Alexander of the college said if you are unemployed or are looking for a new career, this opportunity could be just right for you.

She said the college is looking for kind people who enjoy helping others and would like to work with people with disabilities, particularly those who are blind. Alexander said students will not start earning immediately, but will be paid a stipend. She said applicants need to have a matric certificate, including English and Biology and must be able to communicate well in English and at least one other language.

Alexander said applicants should also be interested in community work and be able to problem solve and effectively train others. Applicants must be aged between 22 and 45 years old, be physically fit and computer literate. Students will be required to walk and be outdoors for long periods of time.

A valid drivers licence is also recommended. The next course will commence next year at the College of Orientation and Mobility at the SA Guide Dogs centre on Wroxham Road in Paulshof. The closing date for applications is the end of this year. Training costs will be sponsored.
