A race around Fourways
FOURWAYS - In the heart Fourways, where business and suburbia meet, is where the annual Fourways Community Church amazing race took place.
Organised by the church, it is a non-profit event aimed at bringing youth, families and local business to work together, reach together and play together.
“For the past three years, we have gathered together church and the local business community for a night of fun and competition, and this year was no different,” said Matt Jansen of the church. He said the church campus was the starting point, and as teams gathered the atmosphere became charged with excitement.
On 31 October, at 6pm there was scramble among contestants to figure out where the first clue was. An obstacle course at JoziX, a chance to show off their BMX skills at PWC Bike Park, practise their tubing skills at Avalanche Cedar Square and enjoy some “guess that” Fro-Yo at Wakaberry, Lonehill, lay ahead.
Adding many brain teasers and clue hunting, teams made their way to other parts of the course which included Highway Football Park in Bryanston and Adventure Golf in Fourways Mall. The church campus was the final stop of the race.
“The early leaders had been outrun of their position by a team which spent much of the race near the back of the pack,” said Jansen.
“It’s the spirit of ubuntu that prevailed. This is so very South African, and gives us a reason to celebrate and bring everyone together.”
