Resident urges community to take action
DOUGLASDALE - The Dougalsdale police received a welcome donation from a resident who wanted to show his appreciation of their service to the community.
Michael Zambelli donated 38 rain jackets to the police station, to be used by officers and reservists.
Zambelli said the reason he made the donation is because he wanted to make a positive contribution to his community.
“I just wanted to do something for the community that my daughter is growing up in,” he said. Zambelli said he often hears people complaining about their community degrading or getting bad service from police.
“Instead of complaining I think we should do something,” he said. “We need to take action and make a contribution to our community.”
Zambelli said there are lots of good officers in the police, but the police service as a whole often takes flack because of some officers who do bad things.
“The way I see it, to the public, the police are the bad guys until the public needs their help,” he said. Warrant Officer Devlin Phillips, operations commander for the Douglasdale police reservists said the rain jackets would be extremely helpful to reservists, because often when conducting plainclothes operations, some kind of identification is integral.
“Some kind of uniform in the field is important, because it offers safety and makes officers identifiable,” he said.
Zambelli is urging his fellow Fourways residents to step up, take action and find out how they can aid their local police station.
