Martial arts centre defends their title
PAULSHOF - The Taekwon-Do Centre brought the gold home to Paulshof at a National Taekwon-Do Championship.
The centre participated in the fifth South African Chang Hon Ryu Association Championships which took place in Port Elizabeth.
Apart from the event being a recognised national selections tournament for the purposes of applications for National Colours by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee, it was also the overall South African championship in all categories of the traditional Chang Hon Ryu style of Taekwon-Do. It is the ultimate championship event for Taekwon-Do in South Africa. 15 clubs and over 220 competitors from all over the country participated.
Jenine Hutchinson, chief instructor of the the Taekwon-Do Centre and president of the Global Taekwon-Do Federation, entered the competition with her team of 30 competitors. Hutchinson (26), who is a 4th degree black belt and world champion, participated with her team in various competition events including individual, couples and team patterns, individual and team sparring, individual and team special techniques, self-defence and power-breaking. The Taekwon-Do Centre won 120 medals in total.
“Every member of our team walked away with at least one medal which is an amazing feat for our club,” Hutchinson said. “I am extremely proud of the exceptional standard of our overall team performance and am thankful for the consistent support received from the students and their parents, as well as the integrity in which they competed.”
