Baby Sloan battles rare illness
FOURWAYS - Little baby Sloan Anthony Lindique-Brown needs all the help he can get from the community to defeat the life-threatening illness he has been diagnosed with.
Baby Sloan was born on 5 March last year to his parents Chantelle and Andrew.
After noticing that her baby had difficulty moving, Chantelle took Sloan to a paediatrician who diagnosed Sloan with having a green fracture, a common injury in infants who have started to crawl and walk. Soon after, however, Sloan started losing the use of his left arm and leg and another trip to the doctor revealed that he had a tumour.
On 16 January this year Sloan was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour on the right side of his brain. The pressure and size of the tumour was so intense that surgeons performed an emergency operation. After six hours of surgery, 95 percent of the tumour was removed, leaving a remaining five percent which requires additional surgery. Depending on the type of lymphoma it may be treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy or a combination of both.
Doctors have recommended that Sloan undergo both chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Friends of Sloan’s parents have set up a foundation to collect the funds needed for Sloan’s treatment. The funds collected will be used for any treatment, therapy, medication or hospitalisation Sloan may need.
