Making sense at Cedarwood

GLENFERNESS – Pupils at Cedarwood School certainly seem to have fun learning new things and they also recently opened their hearts to animals in need.

Grade R’s at the school are currently learning all about their five senses and with the focus on smell and taste, the pupils were taken on a field trip to Papachino’s on 10 March so they could learn to build their own pizzas.

“We were greeted warmly by the staff at Papachino’s and they helped us make our own pizzas,” said Cedarwood School spokesperson, Dawn Schmitz. “We had to knead the dough, add our own toppings and then watch the pizzas bake in the fire oven.”

Schimtz elaborated on how Grade R pupil Phendukani Katide got very extravagant with his vegetarian pizza and even added olives. Lebone Mosweusweu tried to pile on as many ingredients as his pizza could handle, while Alexander Maree tried hard not to eat all the toppings before the pizza was cooked. Keenan Schoeman took on the manager role and helped the staff with their duties.

Cedarwood School also launched a charitable drive at the school this month to raise funds for Kitty and Puppy Haven. Collection jars were placed in every classroom and pupils were encouraged to place any spare change they had into these jars.

Schimtz continued to say that a Grade 4 pupil, Sloane Mew, exceeded expectations with his charitable efforts. “He took it upon himself to make a difference and raised R1 400, on his own, for the Puppy and Kitty Haven charity.”

Mew was then taken to the charity to see where his hard-earned funds would be going and received a lovely certificate for his achievements.

“He [Mew] is extremely passionate about animals and dreams of becoming a vet one day,” concluded Schmitz.
