An evening with the Shaun Jacobs Band
RIVONIA - My Shaun Jacobs Band experience.
The Rivonia Barnyard theatre was lit up on Good Friday by an electrifying performance by the Shaun Jacobs Band.
The three piece band, made up of Shaun Jacobs on lead guitar and vocals, Craig Sparks on bass and drummer Andrew Sowter, had the packed theatre on their feet by the end of the night, mesmerizing the audience by an amazing performance.
Every time Jacobs played the strings on his guitars, or thrashed out on his drum, the crowd was left in awe. They knew that they were watching a musical genius in those moments.
Watch a video from the show below:
There were times when Jacobs used his voice in a way that not many people would have witnessed, he would scream into his guitar microphone, creating a very unique sound, a sound that worked extremely well and incorporated into his songs perfectly.
Shaun Jacobs is a talent like no other in our country, last night he channelled his inner Jimi Hendrix, and hopefully all of SA will soon realise this amazing talent and his career will blossom like it is meant to.
The drummer, Andrew Sowter complimented the band’s sound perfectly in the theatre and had every seat in the barnyard vibrating every time he hit a melodic beat.
Another amazing video from the show:
Half way through the show, all the band members switched instruments, with Jacobs on drums, Craig Sparks taking over lead guitar and the drummer, Andrew Sowter, playing the bass guitar.
The band played their hit singles ‘With you’, ‘Love can’, ‘End of the road’ and the more recent song, ‘Like fire’.
The band has the unique ability to engage the audience while the band itself gets lost in their own music, creating a complete rock performance that leaves you with the feeling at the end of their show that these guys are something special.
The bass player of the band, Craig Sparks, is a perfect onstage counterpart for Jacobs, at times it was almost like the 2 were trying to out play each other on their guitars which just showed the amount of passion that this band encapsulates.
The band also played some new music that they have been working on and it is, simply put, beautiful – from the music to the lyrics being sung by Shaun Jacobs.
A tweet from the band following their show at the Rivonia Barnyard:
Last night at Rivonia Barnyard was epic. Thanks so much everyone for making it so awesome! We'll see you again! @BARNYARDTHEATRE

At the end of the show, the band embraced the intimacy of the show that was the Barnyard and met fans at the end, signing albums and taking pictures with their adoring fans.
The next time the Shaun Jacobs Band will be taking to the stage will be on 10 April at Firkin in Centurion. It will be the perfect way to end of your week following the Easter weekend madness.
Do yourself a favour by going out to see this band because they are an amazing act live, you will not be disappointed.
