Beaulieu Preparatory School lends a hand
MIDRAND - In honour of the late former President Nelson Mandela, Beaulieu Preparatory School invited 67 children from the Ivory Park community to the school. The children enjoyed a day of games, horse riding, face painting and other fun activities.
The school’s ‘Isinkwa’ outreach team, assisted by the Grade 7 pupils, made sure Nelson Mandela Day was not just 67 minutes of outreach, but an opportunity for the team to enrich 67 young children’s lives, even for just one day.
Tracy Valadao from ‘Isinkwa’ said, “Whilst we could only host 67 children, we also provided eats and treats for the other children who were left behind.”
Games included soccer, kick ball, netball, hoola hoops, speedstacks, bean bag toss, obstacle courses and a vault show. The face painting was so popular that the children were washing their faces and going back again for more designs.
Shae Webb and Miescha Valadao sang and Ivory Park gumboot dancers kept everyone entertained.
Ward 112 councillor Candice James was invited to the event. She said, “I was invited by Miescha Valadao to come to listen to her debut single and she dedicated it to Mandela. What an amazing song and I was blown away by the talent.”
