22 eggs a day for fitness champ
FOURWAYS - The champion of Central Gauteng’s International Federation of Bodybuilding, Dave Shanley, owes his success to a disciplined lifestyle.
Shanley, who recently scooped the top position of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Men’s Athletic Physique, survives mainly on eggs and broccoli.
The champion said egg whites are the stuff that give him more protein and keeps him going. “I eat 22 eggs a day, 12 for breakfast and 10 for supper,” said the Fourways resident.
Shanley said he avoids the yolk of eggs. He also guzzles between four to six litres of water a day and feasts on 1.2 kilograms of chicken breast and 500g of hake daily.
He said he also adheres to a strict, six days a week training schedule. “I train twice a day from 5am to 6.30am and 7pm to 9pm,” said Shanley who added that a daily six hours of sleeping was part of his routine.
Shanley also works as a personal and fitness trainer for ETA College and St David’s Marist Inanda.
The champion also runs an online training project where he offers cyber training to his clients.
He has 25 online clients throughout the country and two overseas clients. “I chat online with my clients and I would then prescribe a training programme plus diet for them on an individual basis,” said Shanley.
On 28 March, he competed in IFBB Millennium Classic and came second. On 1 August, he competed in the IFBB Boksburg Classic and won second prize. He also came third on 8 August when he competed in the 1FBB H and H Classic. Most recently on 5 September, he represented central Gauteng at the IFBB SA Championships where he placed fourth.
