Police urge residents not give money to beggars

LONEHILL – Douglasdale police have urged motorists to always be vigilant when driving and refrain from giving beggars on the street money.

This comes after an elderly woman, who wished to remain anonymous, was harassed by a man begging for money on the corner of Main and Witkoppen roads.

The woman explained that the man opened her car door, which was unlocked, after she refused to give him money.

“Eventually I managed to slam my door and lock it. I have never been more frightened in my life,” she said.

Warrant Officer Bulan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale police, urged residents not to give money to beggars and to report any crimes to the police.

“It is difficult for police to do anything if we are unaware of such incidents,” he said.
