Speed bumps receive a thumbs-up from residents
KYALAMI – The recently installed speed bumps on Ash, Zinnia and Cedar roads in Kyalami have been met with a positive response from most residents.
According to Darryl van Niekerk, head of the Kyalami Ridge Residents’ Forum, the speed bumps were installed to curb speeding after receiving numerous complaints, particularly on Zinnia Road.
Van Niekerk added that the speed bumps had changed traffic patterns in the area in two ways. “Firstly, as an equestrian area, speeding cars scare horses and cause a danger to those riding… The speed bumps were a way of protecting riders in the area,” he said.

Van Niekerk, added that despite the positive response, there were residents who were against the traffic calming measures.
He explained that although they [the forum] had received an 80 percent positive response, a minority of residents felt that [there had not been] enough consultation.
Despite this, Van Niekerk confirmed that there were plans to install two to three more speed bumps on Zinnia Road.
John Mendelsohn, Ward 94 councillor said, “We are looking to do an upgrade of Zinnia Road, but that’s all in due course.”
