Zombies on horses at Sun Valley’s Halloween horse ride

SUN VALLEY - A total of 40 young riders recently came together for an afternoon of horseback fun and to bring some trick or treat action to Sun Valley residents.

The event, hosted by the Sun Valley Residents’ Association and Rand Hunt Pony Club, saw the group of excited riders leave from the corner of Champion and Mane roads in Sun Valley on 31 October and set out on a leisurely trick and treat ride over a 5km route in the afternoon, through Sun Valley.

The riders returned laden with sweets, generously provided by Sun Valley residents. They also rode to Rand Hunt Pony Club where Halloween rides have been hosted over the past 10 years. Residents continued to offer sweets to riders and carrots to the horses.

Some properties in Sun Valley even decorated their driveways and gave the riders a very warm welcome as they arrived. Watering points were arranged for riders, their parents and pets who joined on foot.

Heather Partner, one of the event organisers said, “I was most impressed with the wonderful attitude, friendliness and effort that each rider displayed, the make-up, costumes and decorations of the riders and horses alike were beyond belief. Also very special was the Pony Club’s value of sharing ponies with other members; and the three riders representing three generations of Pony Club.”

Pierre Hefer said, “It was wonderful to see that, regardless of the heat, every rider kept their costumes looking perfect, kept their horses under control and had fun.”
