UPDATE: 5 people suffer from smoke inhalation
WATERFALL - Despite reports of a fire at a shop in Waterfall Corner shopping centre, management of the centre said there was no fire.
UPDATE:
Management stated that it was cooking oil that began burning. No injuries were sustained and the store is now operating normally.
INITIAL REPORT:
Five people were injured when a fire broke out this afternoon at a shop in Waterfall Corner.
According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, upon assessment, the paramedics found that the people had sustained minor to mild smoke inhalation and sustained minor injuries.
He added that ER24 paramedics along with fire services arrived at the shop and found that the fire had already been extinguished by the employees of the shop.
“The paramedics treated the people and thereafter transported them to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The cause of the fire is not yet known at this stage but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,” Meiring concluded.
