Deteriorating park angers residents

FOURWAYS – Once a pleasure to walk in, the Witkoppen Spruit Park on Roos Street in Fourways is now littered with papers, a broken fence and dead fish.

According to resident Vicki Blom, the park continues to deteriorate each day. “We take our dogs for walks when we can, and each day I see the park deteriorating,” she said.

“Yesterday there were dead fish floating on the water, [and now the water] has started to smell. The park is full of litter, the fence that was knocked down by a taxi [on the Uranium Road side] has never been fixed. It is totally unacceptable.”

Ward 94 councillor John Mendelsohn confirmed that he was aware of the state of the park and that City Parks had been requested to repair the fence and attend to the cleaning of the park.

City Parks is yet to comment.
