Refrain against hiring cheap labour warn police
DOUGLASDALE – Douglasdale police warn residents against cheap labour.

Once again, Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale Police Station, cautioned the public to refrain from making use of cheap labour and from hiring workers advertising their services on the side of the road.
Muthan explained that people who made use of them were making themselves soft targets to criminals. “There have been a few incidents reported where members of the community, who made use of cheap labour, were either assaulted in their homes or items were stolen from their homes,” Muthan said.

He added that although there had not been many cases reported at Douglasdale Police Station, there was a case of murder opened at Honeydew Police Station on 26 May, after the victim hired someone to assist with renovations in the house.
Earlier this year, Jean Berdou, chairperson of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF), cautioned community members against hiring temporary workers from the side of the road and urged for people to rather use persons with verifiable references and to pay more, rather than gamble with one’s safety.
