Fourways piano stars succeed at national championships
LONEHILL – Read all about the young musicians who recently won big at the South African Championships of Performing Arts.
Two Crawford Preparatory School Lonehill brothers, Naudé and Malan du Plessis, were among the big winners at the South African Championships of Performing Arts held at Nasrec.
They represented Gauteng at the event and are students at the Stage Bright Musicians’ Sandton studio. They were joined by mother and daughter duo, Lisa and Chantie Minnaar, from Stage Bright Musicians’ Kempton Park studio.
Du Plessis, who is in Grade 1, was awarded three silver medals on the day, while Malan, who is in Grade 6, was awarded three gold medals as well as a trophy award for the best pianist in the five to 15 age group category.
Minaar, who is in Grade 2, was awarded two silver medals and one bronze medal and Chantie, who teaches the others at both studios, was awarded four gold medals, a trophy award for best pianist in the 16 years to adult category and also a grand champion award for best female instrumentalist.

The four were also selected for Team South Africa at the Grand Show Case on 8 April in Pretoria. They will represent South Africa at the World Championships of Performing Arts from 26 June to 12 July in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
