Rock your slippers for good cause

FOURWAYS – How important is it to support the Reach for a Dream Foundation? Read to find out how you can.

Fourways community members are encouraged to buy a wristband for R10 from a Wimpy outlet to commemorate Slipper Day.

After purchasing a wristband, community members can redeem a famous Wimpy coffee and then rock their slippers to work or school on 12 May all in support of Reach for a Dream Foundation.

As 12 May is Slipper Day nationwide, the day is noted as a special time of year as ordinary South Africans, celebrities and Wimpy join forces to support the incredible work done by the foundation.

Established in 1988, Reach for a Dream Foundation is one of South Africa’s most loved charities. The organisation makes dreams come true for children suffering from serious, often terminal, illnesses.

Through the Reach for a Dream Foundation, hundreds of South African children have been able to enjoy the simple things in life and are also often given the chance to explore the extraordinary.

“We are incredibly proud to be a part of this amazing initiative and it is something that is very close to Wimpy’s heart. Having the opportunity to help Reach for a Dream to make children’s wishes come true is incredibly moving. Slipper Day has become a day for South Africans to come together to show their support for this worthy cause,” Ayanda Peppeta, Wimpy’s brand manager said.

This year’s Slipper Day has shifted style gears with a colourful wristband designed by Gert-Johan Coetzee, replacing the traditional Slipper Day sticker.

“Reach for a Dream came up with the idea and we just love it. The wristbands are fun to wear and aim to inspire those wearing them. The innovation has added a lot of reach and talk ability to the drive,” Peppeta said.
