Fourways resident out to entrench championship lead at East London races
FOURWAYS – Read on how Fourways resident and lead driver of The Sasol GTC Racing Team, Gennaro Bonafede, will lead his team at the ultra-fast East London Grand Prix Circuit.
Fourways resident and lead driver of The Sasol GTC Racing Team, Gennaro Bonafede, is set to lead his team at the ultra-fast East London Grand Prix Circuit, for round three of the Sasol GTC Championship on 19 and 20 May.
The team is enjoying an early season championship lead of 41 points following three victories from the last four races.
Robert Wolk in the second BMW GTC race car showed at Kyalami that he is up to speed after racing competitively and went on to earn his first points of the season.
The team has worked hard over the intervening weeks to ensure both Sasol Turbofuels Plus racing cars are perfectly prepared for the daunting challenge that the Eastern Cape circuit offers, aware that their rivals have not been standing idly by.

Team manager, Vic Maharaj said of the upcoming races, “We are going to East London with the aim of further entrenching our championship lead and remain competitive. We have been burning the midnight oil, making sure we are race-ready for a circuit which history suggests favours our competitors. Given the team’s current performance, I am hopeful that we will clinch top three positions.”
Championship leader, Bonafede is excited to race at the historic track once more and relishes the fast, sweeping nature of the 3.8km long circuit. “The BMW GTC racing car is significantly different to when we raced here in December last year,” he said.
He added that the cars were running faster lap times this year and with soft compound tyres. “Braking is key to a fast lap. If you hit the pedal too late, you scrub off too much speed and will be slow on the following straight. This race is very important in my championship journey and I need to stay focussed and keep my composure.”
Race fans are welcome to view the cars and talk to the drivers in the Sasol GTC Racing Team pits between the on-track action.
