WATCH: Diepsloot residents take to the streets for better standards of living
DIEPSLOOT - Protest action regarding service delivery brought traffic to a standstill this morning.
According to Times Live, traffic came to a standstill when residents demonstrated their frustrations with the lack of action by government to give them better housing and electricity. The R511 between Sandton and Centurion was the most affected area.
The spokesperson for the JMPD, Wayne Minnaar, told the Fourways Review that the protests are still affecting the area. “The R511 is blocked and motorists should rather use the R55 as an alternative route. The N14 was re-opened, but the R511 was kept closed because protesters kept coming back,” he said.
Video footage via Twitter shows demonstrators burning tyres to block the roads in the area.
