Domestic workers up their skills

Domestic workers were given the chance to up their skills at Hirsch’s Fourways when a few women who regularly visit the domestic networking mornings dedicated their time to improve the lives of domestic workers.
Jackie Scott-Thomas, who is a computer trainer with her company Comp-U-Train, taught the women how to both search for and download recipes from the internet on their phones and also how they can print it if they are able to.
Adele Guthrie from Meet your Maid, a domestic placement agency and service provider, did a practical hands-on demo on how to clean a microwave in the easiest possible way while considering the environment and their budget.
Gabby Metcalf from Sandton Scuba Diving, who is a certified first aid instructor, brought two adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation dummies with her and gave all the women a chance to perform CPR.
Matshepo Sematle, a motivational speaker, also encouraged the women during the networking morning.
As a special end to the programme, Delsie Magoba was named Domestic of the Month. “Delsie was given a glowing motivation by her employer, and her smile and pride when receiving her award was amazing,” said Sharron Dingle, the public relations officer for Hirsch’s.
