Taxi drivers still disregard road bylaws

FOURWAYS – Are you a bad driver? Read this!

Taxi drivers’ bad driving behaviours continue, unabated on Fourways roads and, if caught, these drivers will face the full might of the law, according to Metro police spokesperson, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

He explained that with the continuation of Buya Mthetho (bring back the law), there will be a greater chance of taxis being impounded for not being roadworthy and for bad driver behaviour at hotspots in and around Johannesburg.

“Operation Buya Mthetho is being intensified and is ongoing, as last week there were over 100 taxis impounded in the Johannesburg area,” said Minnaar.

When asked when the operation will come back to the Fourways area, Minnaar said, “We cannot say when the operation will be back in Fourways, but taxi drivers and motorists should expect us any time soon.”

Minnaar mentioned that the operation does not only focus on bad driving or unroadworthy taxis but is directed at all drivers. “Any driver who disobeys the rules of the road will face the full might of the law. This applies to drivers who ignore stop signs and traffic lights, driving over solid lines, speaking on the phone or holding the phone in your hand,” he said.

“The Metro police will intensify the rules of the road and will have no mercy.”
