Motorists, be careful of hitch-hiker ‘posers’ – Diepsloot police

DIEPSLOOT – The Diepsloot police urge motorists in the area to be careful due to reports of robberies and smash-and-grabs

Diepsloot police would like to sensitise motorists about crime hotspots to look out for while driving around the Diepsloot area.

Motorists are warned about hitch-hikers along the N14 in Diepsloot who continue to terrorise motorists with robberies, often with firearms.

“We urge motorists to avoid stopping along this area as it is a crime hotspot. A significant number of cases have been reported to the police of motorists who were robbed after they had stopped for hitch-hikers along this area,” said Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, communications officer for the Diepsloot Police Station in a statement.

“Should motorists get a tyre puncture along this area, they should try to drive to the nearest filling station where they can be safe.”

The corner of the R511 and R562 in Ext 2 is a smash-and-grab hotspot. Motorists are urged to be vigilant when approaching this intersection, especially in the evening. When they approach this intersection, they should be on the lookout for suspicious persons idling around.

“We urge motorists not to leave their valuables lying around in the car where criminals can see them, as this increases chances of being a smash-and-grab victim,” Mathebula concluded.
