The Springboks made South Africa proud by winning the Rugby Championship 2019 for the first time in 10 years. The last time South Africa took home the title was way back in 2009.

The Bokke took on a strong Argentinean side and went on to win the game with an impressive 46-13 victory in Salta. Australia ended up second in the Championship, with our biggest rivals New Zealand ending up in the third spot. The Bokke are now preparing for the upcoming 2019 Rugby World Cup that is being hosted by Japan. The Rugby World Cup officially kicks off on the 20th of September when host nation Japan takes on Russia in the opening game. South Africa’s first encounter is against the All Blacks on Saturday the 21st of September at the International Stadium Yokohama in Yokohama City.
The competition sees 20 teams competing for the coveted Webb Ellis Cup, which has already arrived in Japan ahead of the tournament. The teams are divided into 4 pools with 5 teams in each pool. South Africa is in Pool B, a relatively weak pool except for New Zealand. The other three teams in Pool B are Canada, Namibia and Italy. One of the most intriguing pools is the competition is Pool C. This sees England, Argentina, France, USA and Tonga battling it out for a spot in the quarter-finals. England, which is coached by Eddie Jones, has been doing an excellent job in preparing for the tournament. Argentina will also be well prepared, having played a good game in the Rugby Championship.
The Springboks have a few weeks to prepare for the tournament in September. Coach Rassie Erasmus now has two matches to get his team ready for Japan. The good news is that Captain Siya Kolisi will be back in the mix after a knee injury that saw him miss the Rugby Championship.
