Over 500 suspects arrested in Fourways during Operation Okae Molao

FOURWAYS – The Gauteng Police conducted several raids around the Douglasdale policing precinct.


Gauteng police, led by Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Theko Pharasi, with officials from the office of the MEC of Community SafetyFaith Mazibuko arrested about 100 illegal immigrants and seized three firearms during Operation Okae Molao, on Thursday 3 October 2019 in the Douglasdale policing precinct.

Provincial spokesperson Kay Makhubele said the operation started at 4am. He said, “During operation Okae  Molao, five taxis were impounded by the police after being found to have been tampered with. One stolen motor vehicle was also recovered. Drugs to the value of about R1000 were found abandoned in Kya Sands Informal Settlement.

Over 500 suspects were arrested for various cases ranging from murder, hijackings and robberies. Makhubele added, “While eighty-two suspects were arrested for gender-based violence cases such as rape, assault and domestic violence.”

The operation also conducted raids in various liquor stores and one illegal sheebeen was closed down.

The arrested suspects are due to appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 4 October.
