UPDATE: Massive baboon spotted in Fourways is finally trapped
FOURWAYS - The baboon was trapped by Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) while roaming around Sandton.
A large baboon which has been spotted roaming around the Fourways area has been safely trapped.
Residents in Fourways and surrounding areas were thrilled and left dumbfounded after spotting a baboon in the area.
According to a post by Cora Bailey from Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) the baboon was trapped in Sandton.
Bailey said, “We are in the heart of Sandton attempting to trap the dispersing male Baboon. Signal and opportunity to use phone is erratic. Hold thumbs. Our large trap is too big for the doorway and the smaller trap may not be enticing enough for him.”
He was eventually trapped in the early evening on 11 November.
Initial report, 10 November, 2pm
Some shared pictures of the baboon which appears to have been spotted in the area since 9 November:
There’s a baboon on the loose in Fourways? One of my neighbours apparently spotted it earlier on Witkoppen Road 😳

There is a massive Baboon on the loose in Bryanston area. It ran across the N1 in front of me as I was travelling East from Olivedale to Edenvale… it crossed from Fourways side to Bryanston before Epsom Downs.. It was terrified! I could NOT believe my eyes? @PigSpotter

So there's a young male baboon making its way through fourways and everyone is hiding their dogs and kids. Time to head off to the mall for a quiet shop methinks🙃. Hope he makes it to wherever he is headed. pic.twitter.com/WxZC5QI789

I love South Africa. There is a wild baboon running through Fourways suburbia. Here he is pictured at a house just up the road from me. #baboonontheloose pic.twitter.com/6xWifUc3Hm
