Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Riversands is postponed
RIVERSANDS – The Picnics in the Park Mad Hatters Tea Party, due to take place at Riversands Farm Village on 4 April, has been postponed due to COVID-19.
You’re going to have to wait a few months before you can enjoy an Alice in Wonderland-inspired bash.
Organisers of the Picnics in the Park’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, which was due to take place at Riversands Farm Village on 4 April, have had to postpone the event. This is in response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement on 15 March that South Africa would be put under a state of disaster in response to the global pandemic of Covid-19 and prohibits gatherings of more than 100 people at a time.

The day would have seen attendees trying to break the world record for the number of people dressed as Alice in Wonderland characters in one place at one time. The event was also going to raise funds for Bethany Home – a charity which provides support and empowerment to abused women and children as reported in A tea party for a cause, published in the Fourways Review [Week ending 20 March].
A second tea party was also planned to take place in Cape Town on 28 March. “We’ve postponed both tea parties at the moment, and are planning to host them instead in September of this year,” explained Zelda Williams, who was involved in promoting the event. “Anyone who has already bought their tickets is able to apply for a refund on the Quicket website [where tickets were previously on sale].
“When it’s safe to do so, I’d definitely encourage people to go out and support local venues like Riversands.”
