Local rapper gives fans a taste of what’s to come with four-track EP See u Soon

Blending poetic rap, soulful melodies, and African trap, the four-track project offers fans an intimate look at Ceeya's journey, while building anticipation for his upcoming album.

Rather than keeping fans waiting for his upcoming album, local rapper Siyabonga ‘Ceeya’ Kunene has decided to give them something to hold onto in the meantime.

His new four-track EP, See u Soon, is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a thank you to the people who have supported his journey, and a glimpse of what’s to come.

“The inspiration behind it comes from the idea of offering my core supporters music before the release of the much-anticipated album, DoNotDisturb, hence the name: See u Soon.”

Ceeya says the project reflects both where he is as an artist and where he’s headed. “I would say it’s a soulful EP, with boom bap elements, centring poetic rap flows and the fusion of African trap, having more heartfelt melodic rhymes, predominantly expressed in Nguni languages, isiZulu and isiXhosa, with a sprinkle of English.”

Inspired by artists such as Kwesta and Touchline, while also drawing from his own musical catalogue, Ceeya says he wanted to create music that speaks to people on a deeper level.

“My goal is for listeners to be inspired, motivated by my story, journey, and growth, and mostly to stand firm and believe in their dreams. That’s what I want them to take from See u Soon.”

Although each song tells part of his story, two tracks have already struck a chord with listeners online.

“Track one, Angizenzi, and track two, What’s Mine, are the songs receiving more reactions and engagement from the snippets I post on social media. I would love to believe the message on these songs resonates more with the masses.”

He worked alongside fellow up-and-coming artists, each bringing their own flavour to the EP. While, See u Soon marks an important milestone, Ceeya says it’s only the beginning. He is already preparing to take the music to more people through promotional videos.

“As we speak, the rollout is in full motion, with a couple of videos out, a radio tour coming up, and live performances on the agenda.”
