Do the running man with the Schillers

SUNNINGHILL – Strengthen your hip and gluteus maximus muscles with the running man exercise.

The running man exercise can strengthen one’s hip and gluteus maximus muscles.

Sunninghill physiotherapist Olivia Schiller and her husband Max shared a video of this particular workout online. The pair have been posting free exercise videos online to help people exercise at home during the lockdown.

The exercise video starts with Max standing while hunching his back slightly and lifting his arms as though he were about to run. He then repeatedly sticks his right leg out to the side, touching the ground some distance away with his toes, before bringing his leg back. At the same time, his left leg holds its position and his left arm swings forward to help keep balance in time with his right leg movement.

“You’ll feel the stabiliser leg working,” explained Olivia as Max continued to demonstrate. “You’ll go out to the side for 15 or 20 [stretches] and then to the back. Just toe-touching.” Max demonstrated this by changing his direction of leg movement to behind him, and touching the ground with his toes about the same distance away from his body. He still kept his left leg still and swung his left arm as he did so.

Recent exercise videos the pair have uploaded included an advancement of the side plank, the roll up and more stomach and core exercises.
