International stars head to Montecasino for Ducati King of the Whip
Twelve international riders will join South Africa’s best as title contenders prepare for a high-flying showdown at Montecasino.
The battle for the best whip in freestyle motocross is set to intensify when international riders descend on Montecasino on November 7 for the Ducati King of the Whip.
American Wyatt Fontenot will return to defend his title, but Belgium’s Julien Vanstippen will be looking to reclaim the crown in a competition that will also feature several former runners-up and international stars making their South African debut.
This year’s event will bring together 30 riders, including 12 international competitors, for a day of motocross action, with the Best Whip and Best Trick contests at the centre of the programme.

“Every year we try to elevate King of the Whip to give fans the best experience possible. Expect non-stop action in both the Best Whip and Best Trick contests,” event organiser Ryan van der Spuy said. “Motocross racers versus Freestyle Motocross riders.”
The Best Whip contest will see Fontenot and Vanstippen face off, while American Tom Parsons, Spain’s Edgar Torronteras and South African Dallan Goldman will also be chasing the top spot after finishing second in previous years.
American freestyle motocross star Tyler Bereman will add another contender to the mix, competing in South Africa for the first time. “A big thing for us and the event this year is that we have the biggest names in the sport coming to compete on local soil and it will be something not to be missed,” added Van der Spuy
The Best Trick contest is also expected to deliver some standout moments, with Japan’s Taka Higashino making his first appearance at King of the Whip. Spain’s Marc Pinyon will attempt a trick that has never been seen at the event, according to Van der Spuy.

“King of the Whip is an amazing day out for the whole family. It is action packed and fans get to witness the best Freestyle Motocross riders in South Africa and from around the planet up close and personal. Even though the main focus is the Freestyle Motocross competitions, King of the Whip brings with it a festival vibe.”
Spectators can also look forward to live music from the event’s DJs, Monster Energy’s Rig Riot, pyrotechnics and partner activations, alongside food and drinks. Meet-and-greet sessions and pit walks will give fans opportunities to get closer to the riders.
