SA’s top dressage horses and riders compete at Fourways Riding Centre

TIMSRAND – Local yard sees the country's top dressage horses and riders compete against counterparts from six other countries.

The best dressage horses and riders in South Africa converged in Timsrand for a chance to compete against their counterparts from several other countries at the South African leg of the FEI World Dressage Challenge.

Fourways Riding Centre was abuzz as the cream of the crop brought their A-games for international glory. “The show goes around the different countries, taking the same test for riders to compete at and compare their scores,” explained the yard’s owner, Marion Clough.

“Normally the same judges attend the shows but with Covid-19 they used top local judges.”

Horses were awarded points that could be compared with horses in Australia, China, Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand.

Clough described the standard of horses and riding as world class. “There were 43 horses and each of them was probably worth a million Euros easily,” she added.

“The standard of riding was also excellent and overall the series was just world class. There is no better way to describe it.”

Clough said she looks forward to hosting more shows of this nature as they highlight the best South African equestrian sports has to offer.

The centre will next host the Dressage South Africa (DSA) Challenge from 6 to 8 November. This before another show that tours the world, the FEI World Jumping Challenge, on 14 November.
