Support the Guide Dogs Association
PAULSHOF – The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind are hosting a raffle to win a brand new Suzuki Swift.
The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind, based in Paulshof, will be hosting a raffle to help raise much-needed funds for the organisation.
Nadia Sands, the head of marketing for the organisation, said, “We are at a third of what we usually sell and only have until 31 December to try and raise as much as possible.”
Sands said that many companies cannot afford to host a year-end function or provide lavish gifts so they have proposed that companies consider buying each employee a raffle ticket, giving them a chance to win a brand new Suzuki Swift GLX.
The proceeds from the raffle allow the association to train much-needed working dogs for the many South Africans living with disabilities.
“The Suzuki sponsorship has helped train a service dog for Leila Durr, a scholar who has been diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia, a rare genetic disease that causes difficulty walking, a loss of sensation in the arms and legs, and impaired speech.
“Thanks to her dog Sakura, Leila can still enjoy her teenage life with her friends and family.”
Sands added that they hope to train another dog named Akari with the 2020 raffle sales but with the dwindling sales, they are fearful they might only be able to assist Leila.
Tickets can be bought via www.guidedog.org.za/product/car-raffle/. Entries close midnight on 31 December. The draw will take place on 29 January next year. Tickets can be purchased for R50.
