All is calm following a bomb scare at Fourways Mall

FOURWAYS – Police officers, the bomb squad and K9 units were on the scene.

All is calm at Fourways Mall after a bomb threat was reported this evening (29 January).

A statement released by the mall said that the centre received the threat telephonically. The statement said that the South African Police Force, Bomb Squad and K-9 units were notified and responded immediately. “The mall’s health and safety and evacuation protocols were set in motion swiftly and the situation is currently under control.”

The Bomb Disposal Unit has confirmed that no bomb was found.

Andri Pienaar, the asset manager for Fourways Mall said, “Providing a safe environment for all our patrons and staff is our first priority and we are committed to protecting our community.

He added, “Situations of this nature are treated with utmost seriousness, and this case will be investigated further. We would like to thank the SAPS who responded within four minutes, ER24, Life EMS, the Bomb Disposal Unit and the Fire Ops Rescue for the prompt response and action taken. “
