WATCH: Protest action takes place along Montecasino Boulevard

FOURWAYS – Members of the South African Workers Union (Fosawu) protested in Fourways due to changes made in their work contract which they say could lead to their retrenchment.

Members of the South African Workers Union (Fosawu) began a protest on Montecasino Boulevard on 1 February.

Protesters said that they were concerned about changes in their work contracts which they say could lead to their retrenchment. Fourways Review journalist Khomotso Makgabutlane was on the scene. The angry protestors said they have received no communique about the changes since early last year.

A statement released by Montecasino said, “Twenty-two members of the team, belonging to Fosawu, engaged in a protected strike. Our management team is currently in discussions with union representatives to try and keep the strike as short as possible. At this moment in time, we are not at liberty to say what they are striking for as this may hinder the discussions that are currently underway with the union.”

“We would like to assure our guests that this strike has minimal impact on the operations of Montecasino and will continue to offer all visitors a safe environment to enjoy the different entertainment offerings. “
