Bragging rights for cricket club
OLIFANTSFONTEIN – The Midrand Cricket Club finished their inter-club tournament with Midrand Knights coming out victorious.
The Midrand Cricket Club inter-club tournament wrapped up with Midrand Knights coming out victorious.
While the rain threatened to derail the final T20 friendly matches for a second consecutive weekend, the games went on. Up first were the two host sides, Midrand Stunners and Midrand Renegades. Chairperson of the club Tshoko Moloko said, “Midrand Stunners lost the toss and were sent in to bat by Midrand Renegades on a slow wet wicket.
“Stunners lost an early wicket in the third over before captain Bongani Gcaba joined coach George Mukoki to craft up a 98-run partnership which set the base for the other batsmen to score 176 in their allocated 20 overs.”
The top scorer was Mukoki who fashioned a 68 off 38 balls while Gcaba fell seven runs short of his 50.
“Midrand Renegades didn’t manage to get going as wickets fell from the first over before captain Bongani Gcaba, bowling a brilliant in-swinging spell, helped the Midrand Stunners bowl out Midrand Renegades for 68.”
In the final, Tembisa Cricket Club batted first setting Midrand Knights a low target of 108 all out. It could have gone either way but Midrand Knights won the game with three wickets in hand to claim Midrand bragging rights.
“The tournament was a success with new and old players getting to play alongside each other. This was a platform to discover new talent for the seniors as Midrand Cricket Club looks to increase it’s selection base through the addition of young exciting juniors.”
