Diepsloot Police Station along with a number of organisations took to the streets on 11 March to raise awareness of the dangers of substance abuse.
Police officers as well as the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group, Lawyers Against Abuse, Department of Social Development and other local stakeholders took some time to hand out pamphlets in the community.
Spokesperson for the Diepsloot Police Station, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said valuable information was shared by the stakeholders regarding the dangers of substance abuse among young people. “The community, particularly young people, were sensitised about substance abuse and were given information on places they should go to for help when they experience this problem,” Mathebula added. Police urged members of the community to report those selling drugs or involved in any illegal activities by contacting the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or calling the police.
“The police further urged the community to continue partnering with the police by playing an active role in the fight against crime.”
