Ward 93 community and local businesses donate baby formula to children’s foundation
SUNNINGHILL– Hein said Maletsatsi Foundation was established in 2020 to support children who have been abandoned, abused, neglected or in need of care and protection.
Ward 93 councillor Candice James, SPAR Sunninghill Crossing and community members joined hands and donated baby formula to help feed children sheltered at Maletsatsi Foundation in Midrand.
This was after the founder of Maletsatsi Foundation, Tiffini Hein appealed to members of the public via social media platforms to help donate baby formula to feed seven children. The children had been evacuated from Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital when a fire broke out on 16 April this year.
Hein said Maletsatsi Foundation was established last year to support children who have been abandoned, abused, neglected or in need of care and protection due to different circumstances, as determined by the Children’s Act.
“While doing the removal [of the babies] in the hospital with the social workers, I placed a post on our Facebook page asking whether any of our supporters could assist with PreNan for these babies. As an NPO, we rely fully on the public for donations and remain massively grateful for all the support we’ve received from different donors. The seven babies who we assisted with the temporary placement of were all medically ready for discharge.
“After councillor Candice James put our story onto the Paulshof community group, the community approached the management of SPAR in Sunninghill Crossing and mentioned our need to the store’s management. In less than one hour, the store managed to raise formula donations worth more than R15 000,” Hein said
James thanked residents of Ward 93 for what she described as unity in action and willingness to help those in need.
“I would like to thank all residents of Magaliessig and Paulshof, Coffee n Crunch and SPAR Sunninghill Crossing for their generosity. This is proof that community has strength when pulling together towards one direction,” James concluded.
