Region A Department of Health encourages walk-ins to visit the vaccination site and register to get vaccinated
MIDRAND – The Region A Department of Health shared their statistics relating to their fight against the coronavirus on July 30.
The Region A Department of Health shared some of their statistics relating to their fight against the coronavirus on July 30.
The Health Department’s regional deputy director, Nelly Shongwe, reported that so far, 20 824 people had been vaccinated, from May 26 to July 29.
She said that as things stood at the moment, the number of people who were being vaccinated on a daily average were 519 people in Midrand, 165 in Kanana and 196 people being vaccinated on average, daily, at the Lord Khanyile Community Stadium, an average which was recorded in the last six days.
Shongwe said her department was quite satisfied with the number of vaccinations taking place currently, according to their statistics. “Especially given how the numbers have incrementally increased as the different age-group cohorts were added. And also that the private sector is on board and assisting government with the speedy roll-out of the programme.”
She added, however, that though things were steadily changing to fast-track the process of vaccinations, people still had to register on the government website first. “If you do not have access to a smartphone or computer, there are staff members available at the Midrand Fire Station vaccination site and other sites to assist you to register.
“The first and preferred option is for people to register on the EVDS (Electronic Vaccination Data System) website, however, with the demand and the need to increase our vaccination and reach the targeted population to reach the herd immunity, walk-ins are welcomed and will be registered and vaccinated on-site.”
Shongwe added that cases had dropped from 214 cases on July 29 to 140 cases as received on July 30 in the region.
