BRYANSTON – Khathutshelo Mashau was arrested in March 2013 at a bank in Bryanston by the Hawk’s Serious Commercial Crime investigation team.

A man arrested in Bryanston for fraud has been sentenced to 48 years of direct imprisonment.

The Boksburg Regional Court recently sentenced 39-year-old Khathutshelo Mashau after he was found guilty on 22 counts of fraud under the Prevention of Organised Combating and Corruption Act (Pocca) and contravention of the Income Tax Act.

Mashau was arrested in March 2013 at a bank in Bryanston by the Hawk’s Serious Commercial Crime investigation team.

According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, Mashau was about to withdraw additional funds from a fraudulent account that he previously used to receive fraudulent income tax claims.

“Between November 2011 and July 2012, Mashau submitted fraudulent income tax return claims using seven different individuals’ accounts without authorisation.”

Mashau altered bank details and created false tax return submissions where he received over R500 000 between the seven-month period.
