Hope fades as Kya Sands job possibilities stall
Diepsloot residents, who believed employment was finally within reach after submitting a curriculum vitae in Kya Sands Business Park, now face uncertainty, disappointment, and growing financial pressure as they continue waiting for feedback.
For many unemployed Diepsloot residents, handing over their CVs to companies in Kya Sands Business Park felt like the first step towards changing their lives.
Now, that hope has been replaced by anxious waiting, unanswered questions, and growing disappointment. The residents took part on a community-led engagement with businesses, aimed at creating employment opportunities for locals.
At the time, many believed they were one step closer to securing much-needed jobs. Now, a few days after the initial interviews, several say they have received no feedback.

Elvis Kadiaka, a family man who has been searching for work for eight years, said being selected gave him renewed hope. “As a provider, I was happy but also nervous because I knew there was still no guarantee that I would be hired. Although disappointed by the silence, I still have hope.”
For Nelisiwe Vilakazi, the opportunity seemed like the breakthrough she had been praying for after years of unemployment. She has been looking for work since 2022 and said hearing that her CV had been selected filled her with excitement.
“I was so happy because I am desperate for a job. As the days pass without any communication, my excitement slowly turns into heartbreak. I already saw myself working. Not getting any feedback makes me very sad.”
Vilakazi said the uncertainty has taken an emotional toll on her, especially because her child depends on her financially. “It affects me and makes me feel like a loser. My child is dependent on me, and for years I feel like I’m failing as a parent.”

Phongolo Eddie, who has survived by doing occasional stage set-up jobs at Montecasino, said he believed this would finally be his opportunity to secure stable employment after two years without permanent work.
“I was so happy when my CV was taken. I even told my family I was going for an interview on Friday because I believed I was finally going to work. When no feedback came, I was disappointed, but there is nothing I can do. Maybe that job was not mine.”
While the residents continue hoping for answers, many say the waiting has become emotionally exhausting. For families already struggling to make ends meet, every unanswered phone call and every passing week without feedback deepens the uncertainty.
Despite their disappointment, the three residents said they have not completely lost hope and remain willing to attend interviews should the opportunity still arise. So far, only three residents from Kya Sands have secured interview sports.
