Dainfern College celebrated the achievements of their Grade 12s at a valedictory service on October 8.
Principal, Matthew Davies said, “Our Grade 12s have been incredibly brave and resilient throughout the challenges of lockdown and we were delighted to be able to celebrate them on campus as best we could while observing Covid-19 protocols.”
The college offers both IEB matric and Cambridge A-Levels.
Learner Hamza Mahmood was named the Cambridge Studies Dux Scholar as he achieved averages of more than 80% throughout his high school career. He finished his Cambridge A-Levels with an 88.15% average.
Jenna Sampson was announced as the IEB Dux Scholar for achieving more than 90% since Grade 8. Sampson has won this award every year, and she concludes her Grade 12 year with an average of 90.09%.

At the end of the service, there was the traditional Walk of Honour for the Grade 12s as they made their way off campus one last time. The Class of 2021 retraced their school days past the junior prep and senior prep learners, and their high school peers and teachers in the various quads of the college. They then left their ties behind as the symbolic end of their Dainfern College journey.
“The Grade 12s were visibly moved by this symbolic revisiting of their school journey and emotions were high as they hung their school ties on the tree before leaving campus.
“Despite the challenges, frustrations and disappointments of the year, there was no doubt that for the Class of 2021, their school days at Dainfern College were indeed the best of times,” said the school’s digital communications assistant, Ashley van Aswegen.
