R7 million raised by locals for radio station’s NPC

BROADACRES – A local radio station provided the platform to the Hot Care NPC to raise over R7 million to aid in assisting the community.

The greater community of Hot102.7FM raised more than R7 million for the station’s NPC during a half day teddython on November 25 in Broadacres.

Over a period of 12 and a half hours, community members and businesses donated money and services to the Hot Cares NPC thanks to the platform of radio station Hot102.7FM.

Hot Cares provides helps to individuals and communities in need of educational resources, financial aid, medical assistance and more. Residents were able to donate either by calling into the station or by going to the event and companies offered their services for a certain price. Presenters of the various shows had a number of activities ranging from a tug-o-war battle to an egg and spoon race.

Head of Hot Cares, Carmen Rocha said the support from the community throughout the day had been outstanding. People outside of Johannesburg and the country also donated to the cause.
“Considering the times we are in, I would say the day has gone considerably well. Last year, we raised R6.2 million and we thought it was difficult.

“I think people did not expect Covid to carry on this long and as such the needs have grown because we thought we were at the end of Covid. To even meet what we met last year was a challenge, and totry this year with a bigger goal was a stretch,” she said.

Rocha added a lot more people have donated their time and efforts to assisting Hot Cares during the height of the pandemic, and that with tough times came more love from the community.
Bunny Majaja, co-presenter on the station’s breakfast show said it was an honour to be part of the fundraising and assist the voiceless.

“I think this is a testament to how tough times have been. Everyone is aware of how difficult things have been, but people have opened their hearts if in a position to help.

“We are able to be a conduit for these large corporates and generous people giving all this money to something sustainable that will change lives,” she told Fourways Review.
